Kalay Beauty
A timeless, inclusive beauty brand — a bindi-inspired gem mark, a warm emerald-and-gold system, and photography that puts radiant women of every age at the centre.

Context
Kalay Beauty is a skincare brand founded by beauty expert Kalay Govender for women the industry usually talks past — women of colour, women over forty, women who are done being sold a "fix." Its promise isn't becoming someone else; it's clarity — helping a woman see and reveal the radiance she already has.
The brand had to feel premium and inclusive at once: luxury that doesn't quietly mean young, white, and airbrushed.
Approach
I led the brand as Creative Director, around one word — Timeless — and one archetype: the Sage, the expert who helps you see clearly.
- A mark with a third eye. The symbol is a gem cut like a bindi — its internal facets forming a quiet "K." It sits where the third eye sits: a focal point for wisdom, clarity, and insight — rooted in South-Asian heritage, reframed as a modern beauty mark.
- Warm luxury, not cold. Deep emerald and sage struck with gold, on warm cream and terracotta — the palette of skin and earth, not clinical white. An elegant serif carries the timelessness.
- Faces, not filters. The art direction centres real, radiant women — grey hair, laugh lines, deep skin — in warm light. Beauty as something you reveal, not erase.
Solution
The face of the brand
The photography is the strategy. Every frame had to make the promise true — that radiance has no single age and no single shade.

The line
A skincare collection styled the way the brand thinks — warm, considered, quietly premium.

Out loud
Campaigns that lead with the face and the feeling, not the discount.

Outcome
Kalay launched with a complete, warm-luxury identity: a bindi-inspired gem mark and logo system, an emerald-and-gold palette, an elegant serif voice, and a photographic world that puts radiant women of every age and shade at the centre — beauty branding that finally looks like the people it's for.
